A continuation of Part 1. Haha duh. Long picture post again, so urm.. sorry, you fellas on dialup! hahaha guess you just gotta wait some time for it to load up.

Annah Rais Longhouse

It's about an hour's ride from Kuching, located after Kota Padawan (10th Mile Bazaar). A real longhouse, with real people living in it and all that. Haha. RM5 per entry, so commercialized, isn't it? It's also a tourist hotspot where you can see bus loads of tourists swarming this area especially during the holiday season.

By the way, Kota Padawan is no longer part of Kuching. They now have their own Padawan Municipal Council ;) Now, back to the pics.. tadaa!

The road to Borneo Highlands.

Passed by Borneo Highlands Resort.

Tadaaa! Annah Rais Longhouse! It's a real Bidayuh kampung longhouse!

Rows of doors where different families live together..

The bamboo floor verandah.. they have chickens and other livestock under the bamboo floor.. hehe :)

Little girl eating at the verandah.

Tourists posing for the camera..uh.. that would be us... LOL.

Among the longhouse rooms with the barok (common hall) in the background.

Inside the barok. They used to have a few skulls in those little baskets there but now there's only one left. How sad.

Say 'hi' to this poor victim of headhunters back in the old headhunting days.

The antique cannon outside the barok.

The famous Bidayuh longhouse trademark (other than the barok) - the bamboo bridge!

A white fella lives in this house among the Bidayuhs in the longhouse. There was a protest against his settling down there but he did anyway.

The nenek who told us the story of the white fella and then asked for money after we took her picture... so commercialized. sigh.

Tiny lanes between the longhouse.

Ducks!! Cute! So many!! :)

One of the newer lots built within the longhouse. Modern nyer...

Longhouse undergoing modernization.. now they even have satellite tv!

Astro pun ada lah!

Poor Singa..lost in the midst of wooden planks...haha.

One of the few cats in the longhouse. They have more dogs than cats here..lol :P

Just for the fun of it. Haha!

The long ride back to civilization town.

Pepper plantations on the hills.

Lots and lots of hill paddy (padi bukit) too!

Back to Kota Padawan.

Hornbill statues at the roundabout.

Then we went to..

Wild Orchids and Pitcher Plant Garden

It's a Padawan Municipal Council project, situated near the Padawan police station.

Tourist: RM2.00
Adult: RM1.00
Children: RM0.50

A wild orchid.. haha one of the very few they have.

Yellow wild orchid.

This was hanging pretty high up..

Uhm...this doesn't look like orchids to me...haha :P

Cute pitcher.. kinda huge too!

Another cute and long pitcher.

Mini barok in the midst of the greenery.

Giant ferns. We eat the smaller version of it...lol :)

Giant bidin. We eat the smaller version of this too. Haha!

More greenery! Haha too much greens.

And then we spotted this flower.. and someone said it looks obscene.. LOL what do you think?

Woonie at the fake waterfall.

Singa at some tree art.. haha native art. Looks cute on the tree :)

Oh well.. more pictures up next time! Now that was tiring..phew. Kinda sums up the whole trip actually but I'll post up the rest in the photoblog.. which is still empty right now.. lol :P

Isn't Kuching simply amazing? LOL :)

P/s - TM Nut Customer Care Support has finally replied my online complaint. Oh the usual stuff, troubleshooting and numbers to contact. Kinda frustrating, but I think the fella called Ganesan who replied was pretty polite and nice actually. Will post about this next time..haha :)
