Land below the wind

I must say that Sabah is definitely a beautiful place.  Spectacular views, breathtaking sceneries, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, and fresh, cool air that simply takes your breath away.

There are 2 things about the land below the wind that really amazes me: 1) The clear waters that are sooooooo amazingly clean and clear that you could see the millions of fish and corals beneath without even having to put on your snorkelling gear; and 2) Everything about the mountains!  The clouds, the air, the view... it's simply amazing.

On the way up Mount Kinabalu, you could actually stick your face out the window and feel the cool, fluffy clouds softly brushing against your cheeks.

And no, I didn't climb the mountain, although I would like to do it someday and conquer the peak of the tallest mountain in Southeast Asia.  It must be great to actually be standing on the top, way above the clouds... although of course, I am too old to imagine myself jumping down to the clouds below and expect them to be soft and fluffy enough to catch me.  Hahah.

But anyway, pictures!  Oh, btw, we spent the first few nights at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort, and I must say... it gave me the first impression that Sabahans are really friendly people because the resort staff were really friendly and full of smiles.  Amazing.

View of the marina and Pacific.

Traditional music at night.

Nice fountain at the main entrance.

I love their Christmas tree... although it's not much of a tree, but it's pretty cute :)

Everyone who visits Sabah should pay a visit to the islands as well.  The white sandy beaches, and the crystal clear waters!

The jetty where you take the boat to the islands.  Although, if you stay at Sutera, they do have boats from there too.

The island jetty at Manukan.

You could see the fish in the water even from the jetty!

Everybody loves snorkelling :)

Another island in view.

Found a heart-shaped dead coral while snorkelling :)

Snorkelling gear in bright yellow >.<

I didn't know war happened on this island as well... hmm...

In search of the highest peak in Southeast Asia... we only spotted the peak on the last day on the mountains... it was constantly shrouded by clouds most of the time and was a rare opportunity to catch a clear view of it.

Morning glories and all kinds of flowers remain fresh all day, unlike in normal lowland climate where they wither away by noon under the hot sun.

The hilly terrains.

Vast areas of settlements and plantations across the mountains and valleys.

Poring... part of the Kinabalu Park site.  Flocked by locals and tourists even on rainy days like these.

View of the islands in a distance, from the airport runway.

It is a beautiful place, isn't it? :)
